A doctor or engineer? Thankfully Johnathon chose engineering

Johnathon’s passion for the medical environment was a major influence on his career. Initially thinking of going into medicine and training as a doctor, his passion for problem solving led to his decision to move into engineering.

He never lost his desire to make a difference in the welfare of other people’s lives and his engineering focus soon found its niche in the engineering space for medical devices.

“When I decided to go to uni, I wanted to get into the health-care space in one form or another. I thought about whether I should become a doctor, but engineering seemed more interesting to me because I also wanted to make a difference. Biomedical engineering seemed a perfect fit,” says Johnathon.

Romar is very advanced in the biomedical engineering field. With a large portfolio of products manufactured by Romar servicing the acute medical sector, it is a field that Johnathon is passionate about and one that gives him a great deal of satisfaction.

“I oversee a lot of the medical device related projects. I liaise with the customers and provide input within Romar from a technical and a compliance perspective (making sure we comply with all the regulatory and quality requirements) and I get to see the medical devices being manufactured and how they are used. I love it most when people come in with an idea – and our job starts. How can we design this? How are we going to manufacture?” says Johnathon.

A true team-oriented person with a deep desire to see outstanding results and drive the field of medical device manufacturing forward, Johnathon fulfils his two professional loves of engineering and being an integral player in the welfare of others.
