Romar’s Machinery Capability

Romar opened its advanced manufacturing centre of excellence mid-way through 2023 and has added machinery capability to support the centre’s technological growth, opening new opportunities to push the boundaries of modern manufacturing techniques.

From state-of-the-art additive manufacturing systems like the Renishaw AM400, to the concept laser from GE, the NLX 2500/700 CNC lathe  and the Hermle c32u 5-axis milling machine with its wide range of applications, Romar continues to invest in the best technology and the best people.

GE additive concept laser

The GE concept laser M2 series 5 enables repeatability at scale. This system provides an elevated level of productivity and repeatability by minimising the effects of process variations.

The result – fast builds that help lower costs. The concept laser enables Romar to work with a variety of materials, including:

  • Stainless steel 316L
  • Stainless steel 17-4PH
  • Maraging steel M300
  • Tool steel H13
  • Aluminium AlSi10Mg
  • Aluminium A205
  • Aluminium AlSi7Mg
  • Nickel 718
  • Nickel 625
  • Titanium Ti6Al4V ELI Grade 23
  • Titanium cp-Ti
  • Titanium Ti6242
  • Cobalt CoCrMo
  • Cobalt CoCrW

Housed at Romar’s advanced manufacturing centre of excellence, the concept laser is a critical piece of manufacturing infrastructure.

Renishaw AM400

The Renishaw AM400 3D metal printer features a build volume of 250mm × 250mm × 30mm and suitability for a wide variety of metals. Different metals have unique melting properties, so Renishaw software has the added benefit of optimising the machine settings to suit the material and geometries being processed.

The Renishaw in-house software engineering provides a fully integrated system to control laser steering, enhancing precision, feature definition and surface finish.

Hermle C32u 5-axis Mill

The Hermle C32 can machine workpieces up to 1000kg in 5 axes simultaneously. It will machine complex materials in record time and with perfect precision. Fully automated, the scope of usage is broad.

The C32 features two axes in the workpiece and three axes in the tool. Dynamic positioning, short downtime periods and secure location in the desired machining position are just as attractive as the extensive working area. The circular tool magazine of the C32 is integrated into the base body and can hold up to 36 tools. The tool magazine can be extended to 192 pockets. This capacity allows complete machining of highly complex workpieces and various parts.

Agiecut Progress 3 - Wirecut EDM

The Agiecut Progress 3 wire cutter offers maximum form accuracy with the best linearity and precise inside radii at every workpiece height, on stepped workpieces, taper cuts and even with complex transitions. Wire Bending Control and Advanced Wire Offset are standard features.

The Agiecut works with the finest surfaces, achieving roughness Ra below 0.1μm with the SF module option.

A surface quality of Ra 0.2μm is standard on all Agiecut Progress V. With high cutting speeds and wires down to 0.07mm diameter, the Agiecut Progress 3 extends Romar’s manufacturing capability.

NLX 2500|700 - CNC lathe

The NLX 2500|700 is a high-rigidity, high-precision turning centre with a distance between centres of 700mm. The model flexibly handles various workpieces with a highly rigid bed, powerful turning capability and outstanding milling performance with the matured BMT (built-in motor turret).

This infrastructure is the ideal tool for manufacturing components for the food industry, automotive industry, construction machinery, industrial equipment and marine parts.

The wide variety of lineups enables Romar to shape customers’ demands into high-quality products and components.

Supporting Romar’s machining inventory is the Leitz PMM 866 Coordinate Measurement Machine with Renishaw PH10 Motorised Probe Head.

It is one of the most accurate in Australia.
Calibrated to +/- 2.5um
Max X 800mm
Max Y 600mm
Max Z 600mm

Romar’s continued investment in machining technology opens pathways for new ideas to become realities.
